The first ransomware that targets mac users was found by security research firm Palo Alto Networks. It was announced on Sunday March 6th 2016. The ransomware, named KeRanger, was found in a rogue version of Transmission. Transmission is a popular bit torrent client. KeRanger locks your files out for 72 hours and demands 1 bit coin.
